Become a Direct Support Professional
Do work that matters. As a Direct Support Professional (DSP) at Sam Adult Care, you'll help adults with developmental disabilities live with dignity, independence, and joy — right here in Cuyahoga County.
The Role
What a Direct Support Professional does
Direct Support Professionals work with individuals with developmental disabilities by supporting behavior plans, teaching self-care skills, preparing meals, and helping with everyday life. Day to day, that can include:
Everyday support
Helping with personal tasks, housekeeping, meals for specific diets, appointments, and getting around.
Growth & connection
Teaching self-care skills, supporting behavior plans, encouraging community, and building trusting relationships.
What We Look For
The heart behind the work
Compassion
Sensitivity to each person's emotional needs, especially in moments of distress.
Integrity
Trustworthiness and dependability, so individuals and their families feel comfortable relying on you.
Attention to detail
Carefully following protocols and instructions to care for each person's unique needs.
Strong interpersonal skills
Patience, warmth, and the ability to connect and communicate.
Physical stamina
Comfort with hands-on tasks such as lifting or repositioning when needed.
A caring spirit
Above all, a genuine desire to help people live their best, most independent lives.
Give Back
Volunteer with Sam Adult Care
You don't have to be a Direct Support Professional to make a difference. Volunteers help the individuals we serve feel seen, included, and part of their community. If you have a little time and a caring heart, we'd love to hear from you.
Community & events
Lend a hand at community gatherings, family resource events, and outings that help the people we support stay active and included.
Companionship & mentoring
Share a hobby, a conversation, or a skill. Genuine connection is at the heart of everything we do.
Skills & time
Have a professional skill, a talent, or simply a few hours to give? Tell us what you'd like to offer and we'll find a good fit.
